2014 ALSC National Institute
See you in Oakland!
Join more than 300 fellow children's librarians and educators for ALSC's two and a half day National Institute.
The Institute is everything you need in one place--programming, keynotes, networking and much more. This intensive learning opportunity with a youth services focus and is designed for front-line youth library staff, children’s literature experts, education and library school faculty members, and other interested adults. It is one of the only conferences devoted solely to children's librarianship, literature and technology and takes place every two years.
Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. We know budget planning happens early, so if you have specific questions about price estimates please contact Jenny Najduch at 800-545-2433 ext. 4026 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Check out ALA's "Making Your Case for Attending" resources and tailor these tools to meet your needs. Making the case for time off and support for travel and expenses to attend a conference requires a solid understanding of the potential benefits to your institution, supervisor, and colleagues. And you need to be able to communicate those benefits clearly—especially in times of tight budgets and reduced staff.
The ALSC Program Coordinating Committee is now accepting program proposals for the 2014 ALA Annual Conference and the 2014 ALSC National Institute. All proposals are due June 7, 2013.
The Institute Task Force is particularly interested in programs that address the third Goal Area of the ALSC Strategic Plan: ALSC will empower its members to eliminate barriers to library services for children and the communities that support them. Have you developed services or strategies “on the cheap” that let you serve an underserved population in a new way? Have you collaborated with the community in developing or delivering services that have helped to overcome barriers? Do you have ideas for how we can do this, and have thoughts for a panel that could spark discussion?
Show your support of children's librarians nation-wide by supporting the 2014 ALSC National Institute. Although it's still early, if you agree to a sponsorhsip now you will have your logo included in the printed program that is being mailed to 7,000 children's librarians in early 2014.
The Institute Committee is also currently looking for author/illustrator keynote sponsorships. Institute participants love meeting their favorite author/illustrator and it’s a great event for speakers because it’s an audience of 300 children's libraians, there is time for a book sale/signing on-site organized by a local bookstore, and it’s an intimate setting all in one location. If you would like to propose any of your authors/illustrators as a keynote speaker at the Institute, and would be willing to donate their travel expenses as a sponsorship, please contact Institute chair Nina Lindsay. Publishers who donate speaker travel expenses are considered gold level sponsors and receive all of the benefits that come with that level. The ALSC Institute Task Force will be selecting speakers based on proposals and program goals, but if selected, we will work with you and your author/illustrator to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience.
